Eight Great Business Plans . And Then There Was One

On April 22, 2002, 8 finalist teams in the Wharton (Business school of the University of Pennsylvania) Business Plan Competition presented their business plans to a panel of 6 judges vying for the grand prize was $25,000. Read the summaries of the business ideas and find out who won. Ideas include: Envisia Inc. - a virtual bone biopsy (VBB) add-on device for MRI scanners. This device enables microscopic imaging and analysis of bone (hard tissue) structure; and PharmaKinetix - an early-stage biopharmaceutical company developing bio-nanotechnology therapeutics for treating inflammatory diseases. Its initial product focus is on its lead compound, PKA01, for mild or moderate persistent asthma. Access requires you to register on their site. Registration is free.

The Australian Conservation Foundation has researched a selection of Australia's major superannuation funds share investments to assess their level of 'socially responsible investing (SRI)'. The findings of the research are outlined in this paper. The paper also provides information and links to find out more about socially responsible investing. It is interesting to note that there is evidence to suggest that investing in SRI funds may even outperform conventional funds.

   The Sydney Asia Pacific Film Festival (SAPFF) is an annual festival of Asian feature films and short works by local film makers which promotes dynamic links between Australia and Asia. The festival is on during August 8 - 17, 2002.
   Entries to the 'Short Soup' competition must either be about the Asian Australian experience or the writer(s) or director(s) must be of Asian heritage. Entries close 5pm, Friday 31st May 2002.
