Not Good Enough
http://www.notgoodenough.org
Not Good Enough (NGE) is a new Australian consumer complaints website started in January 2002 by Dr. Fiona Stewart. The forums are particularly cool as it gives you the opportunity to tell others about your 'Not Good Enough' experience. You can also read other people's postings of their experiences. You need to register to access the forums. The 'Corporate Winners' section tells consumers when companies are getting it right and doing it well. So hopefully companies will also use this information to improve their level of service and the quality of their products.

Small Business Show - Success Stories
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/smallbusiness/success_stories
The Small Business Show website has a 'Success Stories' section. If you're thinking of starting your own business and want some ideas and inspiration then read some of these stories to find out how others have 'made it'. Then go out and start your own venture! Stories include: Justin Herald starting 'Attitude Gear' with a $50 outlay and turning that into revenue exceeding $4 million six years later; the 'Bayswiss' and the 'Baker's Delight' success stories.

Arts and Letters Daily

Denis Dutton (

Prof. of the Philosophy of Art at Canterbury University, New Zealand) and his team surf the web to find the the most intellectually stimulating articles on the web covering 'philosophy, aesthetics, literature, language, ideas, criticism, culture, history, music, art, trends, breakthroughs, disputes, and gossip'. They provide a short teaser and a link to the article. Links are presented in a column 8 style making it easy to quickly scan through the latest academically filtered articles. The list of sites running down the left column are also a great starting point to find more articles of interest.

Most of the librarians who answer queries are volunteers. There are also some useful pathfinders at http://www.ipl.org/ref/QUE/PF to help you get started on research on a range of topics.

Fixing a Fat Nation
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0112.farley.cohen.html
A well written article on 'Fixing a Fat Nation: Why diets and gyms won't save us from the obesity epidemic'. It talks about incorporating exercise as part of your lifestyle. The article looks at environmental factors like the design of cities and the ready availability and low cost of fast foods like McDonalds as factors contributing to unhealthy lifestyles and diets. Another point was schools being paid to have the fizzy drink and snack food vending machines placed in the schools.

Millionaire Mind
A: Thomas J Stanley. P:
Harper Business. RRP: $22.95.
W: http://www.themillionairemind.com

Stanley has researched the mindset, educational background, spouse and other elements of America’s millionaires through questionaires, focus groups and interviews.

The resulting book is a very interesting and informative read. A lot of the strategies of millionaires come across as plain common sense which most people could learn to apply in their own lives.

An example is one’s choice of work. He cites millionaires who have found their vocation and because they’re interested in, and enjoy what they do, they are more likely to succeed at it. They also find their own profitable market niche. These millionaires also tend to own and invest in their own business as they have the greatest control over their own ventures, as opposed to working for someone else.

The book covers a range of topics including: the millionaire’s choice of spouse, the role of courage in achieving economic success, when and what types of homes millionaires buy, and education and intelligence.

It’s interesting to read that a number of these millionaires have a high level of creative and practical intelligence and that this plays a more important role than IQ.

Most importantly, the millionaires had courage and believed in themselves.
