Spent Friday and Saturday at the Fresh Conference run by IdN magazine. It was an awesome event. I have never seen so many creatives at the one place. There would've been around 3000 to 4000 people at the event, many from Interstate. The delegates were all expressing their own individual style - from mohawks to brightly dyed hair and wearing the coolest, colourful street gear around. The vibe was really buzzy. It was great to hear from some of the best creatives from around the world speaking at the one place over the two days. If you missed this year's, look out for the event next year. It cost $250 for two days worth of inspiring stories and great visual presentations.

There were a few brilliant speakers there also - with great, inspiring stories to tell. I especially enjoyed Joshua Davies' (New York) presentation. I admired his romantic idealistic spirit towards his art. He's just into creating stuff for himself. That's the main point I got out of his presentation. He recently revamped Praystation.com completely. You can still get his older material - a dump from his hard drive on CD. He was a terrific speaker and inspires you to just have fun, to create, to just experiment and do stuff. Did a search on Google.com and found two cool interviews with Davis so far. One's with Shift magazine and the other is with Digital-web.com. He's a legend in the web design community.

David Taylor is the MD of the Attik office in Sydney. He had a great story to tell as well. These stories highlight the importance of courage and attitude. The company back in the States were originally print based and then MTV thought they did broadcast and gave them something like a week's deadline to come up with a piece. So they do it and they love it. They got a post production company down the road to help them make their piece ready for broadcasting. They also produce a magazine called 'Noise' which showcases their company's creative talent. They let their designers create whatever they want in this publication. An interesting point was that potential clients would look at 'Noise' and would see what the creatives of the Attik were able to produce. So if they wanted great creative material, they'd go to Attik. This way they were able to get the cool projects.

Yugo Nakamura from Japan was also very inspiring. His work was particularly innovative and creative. You can check out his site at Yugop.com.

Tom Roope from Tomato Interactive in London also gave a good presentation.

Had a fun weekend. Played with a pen cam. They're a great toy. It's really light and compact. It takes 20 high res. images at 388 x 252 pixels or 80 low res. images at 176 x 144 pixels. You can take 20 continuous photos for example and then do an automatic stitch of the photos - it looks good when you do a 360 degree spin around your home or environment. Makes it look like those Ipix apartment tours featured on real estate sites. You can also use it as a webcam or create .avi files out of it so you can make v.short digital movies. Or you can just take a simple .bmp and save it as a jpeg etc for web publishing.

Had fun making pizza for lunch. Wanted to make a pizza with the lot. It meant a trip to Coles and buying lebanese bread, tomato paste, and all your favourite ingredients to sprinkle on top. I went overboard with cabinossi, ham, tomato, avocado, mushrooms, pineapple and cheese. Then baked it in the oven for 10 or so minutes. Yummo! Here's a pic of it - taken with the pen cam of course.

Went to a new bar and restaurant - Lighthouse, in Darlinghurst/Kings Cross for brekkie. It was great. They had a brekkie deal going for $6.50 which included bacon and eggs, juice and tea/coffee. Sat inside. Was a v.cool environment. They were playing Cafe Del Mar, and you could relax and watch the cars flowing past, framed by the arched window with the shade of the tree leaves moving with the slight breeze and the sun filtering through. It felt like you were somewhere in the country.

Went to the Dome Bookshop. They've got a great collection of art/design books there. Bought the lastest issue of Manifesto magazine. It's the first issue I've bought. It's published in Melbourne. Looks quite slickish. They interviewed a few people including Rove McManus. They had a profile of Philippe Starck which I found a bit disappointing. Expected an interview or an in-depth look at his work. Overall the magazine looks pretty good.

Writing this entry on the 30 Sep. Saw this broadcast after 11pm sometime in Sydney. I literally couldn't believe what I was watching on TV. Then all channels were broadcasting the aftermath of it all non-stop for a few days. I found myself in shock and visiting sites such as Washingtonpost.com, NewYorktimes.com, and Cnn.com to find out what was happening.

These terrorists acts just show how interconnected the global community is and how vulnerable the population of the world is, especially the large cities. There is no sense to it all. There are all types of people in the world. The only thing one can really do is to not take life for granted at any time, to really LIVE LIFE, to spend time with your loved ones as much as possible, and to do our best to treat others with respect and love.

Been working on the new design and structure of CG for the last couple of weeks. This is the first part of what I've done. I recently interviewed W. Chew Chan - a comic book artist and have uploaded the interview in the features section. He also gave me heaps of really cool artwork that he's done over the years - both commercial and experimental. I'll be scanning those in real soon and uploading them onto CG soon for you all to view.

Just finished watching bits of Casablanca - colour version shown on TV tonight whilst working on CG. It's an all time classic film but tonight was the first time I've seen it.

Promotion works. Saw this car in the CBD advertising Flatmate.com all over it so I thought it was an international company with a branch in Sydney. So I check out the site and the business is based in Kings Cross, Sydney. Looks like it's got some useful info, but need to register to get access the 'Looking for Accomodation' and 'Looking for a Flatmate' sections.
