Weblog> August 2001 010830: Fri Virtual Business Australia is where you can find search for a virtual consultant. It's based in WA. If you're looking for a content management system, then this article provides a good overview of how to go about selecting one. Put up 6 items on the events page. Backed up my files and then did the 'Quick Restore'. My notebook is now back to normal. Can play CDs on it again :-). 010829: Wed The Australian Marketing Institute is running a seminar on 'New Privacy Legislation Seminar' on Sep 20. Legislation will be introduced on 21 Dec. If you're a Snoopy fan then the Official Peanuts site is worth a look. If you own or are thinking of starting a small business and either have a website or are thinking of getting one, then the 'Enterprise Watch 2001 - The Art Of Success' seminar may be of interest. Blurb says you can "Learn from the success of others and hear specific case studies from successful Australian online small business entrepreneurs." It's on Sep 14 in Sydney. If you work in the web industry and want to find out whether you're in the ballpark then you can download the Web Skill and Salary guide from the Aquent website. Requires registration. It may be the U.S. guide as it says it's in given in U.S. currency. Or you could check out TMP Worldwide eResourcing Australia for an Australian salary market snapshot. This is one of the many salary guides out there. 010828: Tue Did some mind mapping of CG. There's quite a few sections to it. Also started to redesign the structure and look of it again. Still some way to go before new version will get uploaded. I know I haven't had this design for that long but the website is experimental space and as I evolve my ideas, then the website will change to reflect my new thoughts. Dido is coming to Sydney. There are still tickets left for the Oct 8 show. Oct 7 show already sold out. If you're into comics and you're in Sydney Sep 8 or 9 then go visit Comicfest, a comics convention to be held at Centrepoint. My mate Chew is going to be there selling a comic he drew - 'Borderlander'. Came across themoviespoiler.com. This site gives a summary of the whole movie, not just a one liner or so. My Compaq computer is experiencing conflict problems with Microsoft Windows Professional 2000. I installed the operating system and so far the computer doesn't recognise the internal modem and it won't play CDs and the scanner won't work. At least the cable connection is still working. Called Compaq but they said they couldn't offer support as the computer came preinstalled with Windows 98 and I upgraded the operating system. They said to use the 'Quick Restore' CD to restore it back to its factory settings. What about my data and all the software I've already installed? Response was again that the CD would restore it back to factory settings. Will take me about a week now to back up content and reinstall everything. They did mention that if I was very technical then I could try and find the drivers off the web etc. Nothing's ever easy. 010820: Mon I love weblogs. It's about individuals posting whatever they're interested in to the web - often on a daily basis. They're usually very wired and surf heaps and find interesting news, trends, ideas and other stuff as well as posting their own thoughts and commentary - like a web diary and more. MIT have developed the 'Blogdex' project and you can find out all about weblogs here. You can also check out the Top 10 most linked urls by fellow bloggers. Considering doing an MBA? Then find out more at WhichMBA.com.au. If you're one of those people who likes to know the end of a movie before seeing it then check out Moviepooper.com. Or check out The Spoilers Game (sighted on the /usr/bin/girl weblog)if you want to read the ending and guess what film it is from that. 010802: Thu Heinz will bring out a purple coloured ketchup - in supermarkets in September. Don't know if it'll reach Australia. Now you can paint with your food! Have you seen the funky velvety flowers they sell at some florists now. Wishlist has a picture. They're colourful smiley flowers. The article: Digital Kids: The Wired Class of 2001 says that Gen-Y kids (born '79-'94) do not see the web as a "distinct and separate career path" but rather just a part of their everyday life. The NetSpots Directory enables you to find public Internet access facilities in Australia. It has been developed by the National Office for the Information Economy If you want to start your own magazine, then the article: 'Fit to Print. The scoop to starting your own magazine' from Entrepreneur magazine will provide some inspiration and advice. 010801: Wed The Habbo Hotel is a "chill-out space" on the web where you can talk to others. It's like a 3D animation cartoon of a hotel with 'habbos' move around the hotel and strike up conversations with other 'habbos'. The site is targetted at UK teenagers but they say anyone is welcome. The site uses Shockwave. If you've ever thought about starting your own business and want some ideas of what kind of business to start and what's involved, then Entrepreneur.com has put together some cool 'Start-Up Kits'. These include the following industries: consulting service, event planning service, information consultant, internet entrepreneur and e-business. The Mambo site has a cool Flash animation as the header. The cars driving across the screen in front of the row of houses is a pretty effect. The merchandise is pretty surfie cool. |
