FOOD
Crown St, Surry
Hills. It's close to Central Station, or you can walk up Oxford St,
opposite direction to the CBD and then turn right once you get to Crown
St. Crown St has restaurants, cafes and design shops from the Oxford St
end all the way down to the Cleveland St end. On Crown St, there is:
Billy Kwong Restaurant.

Kylie Kwong (http://www.abc.net.au/kyliekwong/)
is an Australian Born
Chinese and her food is a modern take on traditional Chinese food. It
has lots of colours and very strong flavours.
Bills Two. 359
Crown St, Surry Hills, 2010, Phone: 61 2 9360 4762.
Bill Granger creates modern, tasty, simple food. He has written a number
of cook books. The food is good. I like the sweetcorn fritters - for brekkie
or lunch.
Prasit's Northside
Thai Takeaway. 395 Crown St, Surry Hills, 2010, Phone: 61 2 9332 1792.
Great Thai food. They usually have the Morton Bay Bug special, which is
delicious. They have some tables upstairs and a few downstairs. They also
have a restaurant a couple of doors down for more formal dining.
XO Restaurant.
490 Crown St, Surry Hills, 2010, Phone: 61 2 9360 7007.
This restaurant is managed by Neil Perry (http://www.neilperrychef.com).
XO serves modern Asian dishes.
Matsuri Japanese
Restaurant. 614 Crown St, Surry Hills, 2010, Phone: 61 2 9690 1336.
There is a take away next door to the restaurant as well. The restaurant
has a sushi boat on the menu that is freshly made and well worth the wait.
If you haven't booked and ordered it in advance, they may not be able
to make it for you on the spot either, when they're busy.
Chinese
food, go to Chinatown. Keep walking down George Street towards Central
Station, opposite direction to the Rocks. Then when you see Goulburn St
on your right, walk down there and down Sussex St and Dixon St and there
are lots of restaurants around there.
Italian food,
go to Norton St, Leichhardt.
All along Norton St, you'll find Italian restaurants, cafes, gelato bars,
and there's also the Palace cinemas which show Arthouse movies, and Berkelouw
Books sells art and other books. The Italian Forum is on Norton St as
well and it's another few levels of shops, restaurants etc, as well as
local residents living in the surrounding apartments.
Spanish food,
go to Liverpool St, Sydney. Just walk down George Street towards Central
Station, opposite direction to the Rocks. Then when you see Liverpool
St on your right, walk down there and you'll a number of Spanish restaurants
serving tapas, paellas and more. Some places also have dance and music
performances on Friday and Saturday nights.
Portuguese food, go to New Canterbury Rd, Petersham.
Lots of Portguese food down this main road and down Audley St in Petersham.

Golden
Century http://www.goldencentury.com.au
(Chinatown, close to the CBD)
393 Sussex St, Sydney, 2000, Phone: 61 2 9212 3901
Always busy. Often need to book to get a table otherwise you may have
to wait for 30mins to an hour. Opens late - till about 4am. Atmosphere
is very lively, bright. Food is very fresh, tasty Chinese cuisine. The
restaurant is on two levels.
Fox
Golden Century Seafood Restaurant http://www.goldencentury.com.au
(about 10 minutes drive from the city)
Shop 220-888 Fox Studios, Australia Driver Ave, Moore Park 2021, Phone:
61 2 9358 4488
A more modern version of the one in Chinatown. Good place to go if you
want convenient parking (you can get your ticket stamped at night so you
can park for free, otherwise around $6 flat rate). Also convenient if
you want to catch a movie while you're there.
New
Marigold http://www.marigold.com.au
Levels 4 & 5, 683 George St, Sydney, 2000, Phone: 61 2 9281 3388 (five
minutes walk from Central Station)
Great for yum cha and dinner. Valet parking available. Fees apply. Dinner
parking free.
Yum cha is generally on Level 5, and if busy, they'll also open Level
4 up. I prefer Level 5 as it feels more light-filled with white fabric
shading the glass ceiling windows, and just feels more open.
The food is great.
Kam
Fook (can catch a train or bus there from the city). Chatswood also
has two major shopping centres there: Westfields and Chatswood Chase.
28 Victor St, Chatswood, 2067, Phone: 61 2 9413 9388
Good food.
Super
bowl (Chinatown,

Restaurant 2: 39 Dixon St, Haymarket, 2000, Phone: 61 2 9281 2363
Restaurant 3: 39 Goulburn St, Sydney, 2000, Phone: 61 2 9211 1568
Tasty food that's very
good value. Very lively, very busy places. Great for fried rice noodles,
congees as well as other dishes. Great for a midnight snack. Went there
at 12am and had to queue up for 20 minutes on a Friday night.
Italian:
Bar-Italia (Leichhardt,
can get there by bus going down Parramatta Rd, about 15 minutes drive
from CBD)
169 Norton St, Leichhardt, 2040, Phone: 61 2 9560 9981
You find a table before you order the food. Then you order the food at
the food/drink counter and gelatos at the gelato counter. Then it usually
arrives in less than 5 minutes. Very busy buzz. Very good value food.
Pastas on the blackboard. Chicken, veal schnitzel and chips, salad etc
on the dinner board. Expect long queues. But you still get served very
quickly.
