About Mike McCormack
author of the article: What is Open Source?

What do you do?

I'm a programmer for Codeweavers Inc. We work on creating a compatability layer so programs written for Windows can be run in the GNU/Linux operating system.

What's your background and training?

I studied Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Sydney University.

How and why did you become interested in open source?

I became interested in Open Source software (specifically Linux and the Wine Project) because I prefered UNIX like operating systems over Microsoft Windows.

What projects are you currently working on?

The Wine Project is the only open source project I work on at the moment, but I use many other pieces of Free Software everyday.

What is CodeWeavers?

Codeweavers is the corporate sponsor of the Wine project and my employer. We make money by selling software that is "the icing on the cake" for Wine, and supporting that software. Our aim is to make the work of the Wine project available to a wider audience.

Where are you based?

Codeweavers is in Minneapolis, and I spend time there, and in South Korea.
