Sydney Opera House Celebrates World Heritage

Sydney Opera House

"Sydney Opera House was formally recognised as one of the most outstanding places on Earth with its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 28.

Sydney Opera House is now listed alongside other universally treasured places such as the Taj Mahal, the ancient Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China and the Great Barrier Reef.

The expert report by the International Council on Monuments and Sites to the World Heritage Committee states, "Sydney Opera House stands by itself as one of the indisputable masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th century but in the history of humankind."

Sydney Opera House Architect Jørn Utzon received the news that the building is to be inscribed on the World Heritage List, saying "World Heritage Listing is fantastic... thank you very much."

Pastizzi Cafe, Newtown

Pastizzi Cafe recently opened at 523 King St, Newtown. They have savoury and sweet pastizzis. We tried the chicken and mushroom, empanada, and spinach and ricotta ones. Tasty and great value at $1.60 each. They have them on the trays behind the counter. Also tried the chicken and mushroom ravioli $9 and it was really fresh and yummy.

Hope Street Markets - till Sunday 4pm, 10th June

Hope Street Markets

"The Hope Street Markets are a creatively supported environment for young talented designers to promote and expose their talents through different mediums.

Hope Street Markets is a collaboration of young designers in: clothing, accessories, jewellery, object design, and art..

Hope Street is a non-profit organisation. We will be donating money from the markets to help support Hope Street - Urban Compassion projects helping bring Hope to the streets of Sydney’s homeless."

I visited the market this afternoon and it was great! The space was really cool - kind of like a club atmosphere with a DJ spinning records, lots of people milling about and designers selling colourful, fun, interesting products from coasters to bags to jewellery to brooches.

Designers at the markets are listed here: http://www.hopestreetmarkets.com/designers.php
